Dear Dog-Loving Friends,
I was reading the Washington Post online the other day and noticed that the president and his family have a new dog, Bo. (Yes, I do read the Post—do I look illiterate?) He seems like a pretty cool guy, although the lei was a bit much. I was sad to learn that he has been bounced around to multiple homes and even had to live with a trainer. I hope that the Obama home is his forever home.
I also have to admit that Daisy and I are pretty disappointed that the first family didn’t adopt a shelter dog. After all the bad press around Mr. Biden buying a dog and all the positive campaign press the Obamas received for planning to adopt, I thought for sure we’d see the president at WARL--or at least one of the D.C. Humane Society shelters. And we’re not alone; in its First Dogs exhibit, the Newseum collected children’s votes for what type of dog the Obamas should get—“Shelter dog” won.
Just to be clear, this isn’t political. It’s just a reminder that thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized every year because they don’t have homes. Please… Adopt, don’t shop! Visit http://www.petfinder.com to view animals available for adoption and shelters/rescue leagues in your area.
Sincerely, Zeke (with Daisy)
