Zeke made up a missed agility class last night, and he did very well, especially considering it involved new people and dogs–and a cute one-year-old, JRT named Roxie. I think Roxie and Zeke may have been crushing on each other a bit. Jacks seem to always recognize their own.
We worked on the jump chute, which is several jumps in a row, evenly spaced with fencing around them to keep the dog running in a straight line. Zeke did well in this exercise and has good jumping form. He’s going to be a very fast agility dog.
Most exciting though, was actually running a small course with Zeke off leash and in class. The first round, Zeke was very excited and the hot dogs we’d been using for the first part of class weren’t interesting enough to hold his attention. However, we switched to cheese for the second run through, and he did the full course in one try with fantastic attention! He did a tunnel, weaves, tunnel, table, chute, two jumps and the A-frame:)
Good job, Zekester!
We have one more Agility 1 class in this session on Wednesday, and then we’ll do a private lesson next week with another dog that wants to work on focus issues during the break. June 11, we’ll start up with another session of Agility 1 to continue our work on focus.
