Zeke finished another session of agility last night, and he did very well. He still has some issues focusing too much on the other dogs, but he’s very proficient with all the equipment.
In fact, he’s downright fast. Once he’s comfortable with an obstacle, he flies. He’s picking up the two-step footwork on the weaves, and he drives hard through them. If he can ever get used to other dogs in the room, he would be a very fast little competitor.
Last night, we did a short sequence: dog walk, weaves, frame. Zeke did great on the dog walk and fantastic on the weaves. His A-frame has even improved quite a bit. He’s learning that you get “cookies” at the end of each obstacle.
Our trainer suggested that Zeke find a few play buddies of similar size with good temperaments and no reactive issues. We think that if he regularly plays with different dogs that have good manners, he’ll stop being overly reactive in class and on walks. It will also improve his greeting behavior. Having Shine over was really helpful for him. Perhaps we can find some other dogs under 20 lbs to hang out with…
